The route takes you through a series of beautiful landscapes and crystal-clear waters, offering a thrilling way to enjoy nature.

It’s housed in a small chapel, beautifully adorned and protected by a wooden structure. Nearby, the Santo Niño Basilica is home to the oldest religious relic in the country—the Santo Niño (Holy Child) statue.
It’s a popular site for pilgrims, offering a peaceful atmosphere for reflection. Keep in mind that proper attire is required when visiting these sacred sites. If you’re not dressed modestly, the guards at the Basilica will let you borrow a sarong to cover yourself before entering. Oslob Whale Shark Encounter
Swimming with the whale sharks in Oslob is one of Cebu’s most popular activities. The cost for this experience is about $25 to $35 USD per person, which covers the boat ride and entrance fee. Be aware that there may be additional charges for renting snorkeling gear (around $3 USD) or hiring a guide.
It’s an unforgettable experience, and though some debates surround the practice of feeding the whale sharks, it’s still a chance to see these majestic creatures up close. The water is typically calm, and the visibility is great, so you’ll have an excellent view of the whale sharks as they swim beside you.
However, it’s important to follow the rules strictly, as the experience can easily be disrupted by human interaction. The tour guides are great at ensuring that both you and the whale sharks have the best possible experience. If you’re lucky, you might even catch sight of a few other marine animals like turtles and rays while you’re in the water.
Moalboal and the Sardine Run
Moalboal is a hidden gem for underwater enthusiasts, especially for those who love snorkeling and diving. The main attraction here is the famous sardine run, where millions of sardines gather in dense schools, creating a truly mesmerizing spectacle.
I spent an afternoon in the clear waters, completely surrounded by these shimmering fish, and the sight was nothing short of magical. The sardines move in coordinated patterns, and their shimmering bodies create a glittering effect in the sunlight.
Snorkeling in Moalboal is very affordable, with rental gear typically costing around $5 to $7 USD for the day. If you’re a diver, you can find dive shops offering tours for $30 to $50 USD per dive, depending on the package. The area around Panagsama Beach is the best spot to experience the sardine run, and the waters are generally calm and clear, making it suitable for both beginners and experienced divers alike.
If you prefer, you can hire a local guide to take you out on a boat ride to deeper spots, where you can also encounter other marine life like turtles, rays, and colorful coral reefs.
The sardine run is available year-round, but the best time to visit is during the dry season from December to May, when the waters are at their clearest. During my visit to Bantayan, I was struck by how quiet and untouched the island feels compared to other more tourist-heavy spots.
The island is perfect for unwinding, with beautiful beaches like Santa Fe Beach and Paradise Beach, which offer soft white sand and calm, clear waters ideal for swimming and sunbathing. The beaches here are less crowded, making it easier to find a quiet spot and really soak in the natural beauty.
I rented a motorbike to explore the island, which turned out to be a great way to see more of the area. The roads are peaceful, and you can easily make your way around the island, passing through small villages, rice fields, and coastal areas.
One of the highlights of the trip was trying the local seafood. Bantayan is known for its fresh catches, and you’ll find plenty of seaside restaurants offering grilled fish, shrimp, and other delicacies. I highly recommend trying the bantayan lobster—it’s a local favorite, and the sweet, tender meat is unforgettable.

If you’re looking for a quiet spot to read, catch up with friends, or just unwind, La Vie is a great place to escape the usual Cebu scene and indulge in something a bit more refined.
Tops Lookout
For some of the best panoramic views of Cebu, head over to Tops Lookout, located on a hilltop in the town of Busay. This elevated spot offers a spectacular view of Cebu City, especially at sunset when the sky turns golden and the city lights sparkle in the distance.
I visited in the late afternoon, and the cool breeze combined with the stunning scenery made it a perfect spot to relax. There’s a peaceful atmosphere here, away from the noise of the city, where you can take a deep breath, enjoy the view, and reflect on your day.
The entrance fee to Tops Lookout is around PHP 100 ($2 USD) per person, which gives you access to the viewpoint and its beautiful surroundings. The lookout provides an amazing vantage point for photos, so don’t forget your camera!
It’s also a great place to spend some quiet time with friends or to simply enjoy a moment of solitude. The relaxed ambiance, coupled with the breathtaking views, makes Tops Lookout one of the must-see spots in Cebu.
Sirao Flower Farm
If you’re looking for a colorful escape in Cebu, Sirao Flower Farm is the perfect place. Known as the “Little Amsterdam” of Cebu, this flower farm is tucked away in the highlands of Busay. The colorful fields of celosia flowers create a stunning, Instagram-worthy scene. When I visited, the hills were painted with brilliant reds, yellows, and pinks, making it feel like stepping into a painting.

While you’re there, don’t forget to check out the various photo spots set up around the farm. The vibrant flowers and scenic backdrop make for great pictures, and it’s a fun activity for visitors of all ages. Whether you’re a flower lover or simply in need of a scenic break, Sirao Flower Farm is a beautiful destination that showcases Cebu’s natural charm.
Outside the farm, there are food stalls offering a selection of local snacks and refreshments, such as fresh coconut juice, grilled BBQ skewers, and fried snacks like fish balls and kwek-kwek (quail eggs coated in batter).
You can also enjoy roasted corn on the cob, grilled bananas, and refreshing fruit shakes made with tropical fruits like dragon fruit, mango and pineapple. It’s a great way to enjoy some tasty treats after your walk around the farm.

Carbon Market
Cebu’s Carbon Market is a lively, local market that gives you a true taste of Cebu’s everyday life. Located in the heart of the city, it’s an ideal place to experience local culture and pick up fresh produce, seafood, and handmade crafts. I spent a morning here, weaving through the crowded stalls, and the vibrant atmosphere was infectious.
The variety of fruits, vegetables, and street food options is impressive, and it’s one of the most affordable places to shop. You’ll also find local snacks like mangoes, dried fish, and taho (a sweet tofu dessert), making it a great spot to sample authentic Cebuano flavors.
The market can get crowded, but it’s well worth a visit for an authentic Cebu experience. The prices are budget-friendly, with fresh fruits and vegetables starting at about PHP 20-30 ($0.40-$0.60 USD) per piece.
Ayala Center Cebu
For those who prefer a more modern shopping experience, Ayala Center Cebu is a large, upscale shopping mall located in Cebu Business Park. It’s perfect for those who want to shop for both local and international brands, dine at a variety of restaurants, or catch the latest movies. During my visit, I enjoyed walking around its spacious interior, which includes everything from luxury fashion boutiques to electronics stores.
I grabbed a bite at one of its trendy cafes and relaxed in the air-conditioned comfort of the mall. The mall is also home to local souvenirs and handicrafts, so if you’re looking for something unique to bring back home, Ayala Center is a great option. Expect to pay around PHP 150-400 ($3-$7 USD) for meals, depending on where you choose to eat.
Other Local Markets
If you’re still looking for more local experiences, Cebu also has various smaller markets scattered throughout the city, where you can find everything from clothing to knick-knacks. Taoist Market, near the Cebu Taoist Temple, is another lively spot for fresh fruits, flowers, and food. It’s an excellent place to pick up fresh produce or local items like dried fish and coconut products.
It’s also much less crowded than Carbon Market, making it a relaxing stop after visiting the temple. Prices at these markets are generally affordable, with fresh produce available for as low as PHP 10-20 ($0.20-$0.40 USD).
Exploring these markets offers more than just shopping—it’s about discovering the everyday life of Cebu and discovering the flavors, sights, and sounds of the city’s vibrant culture.

Sinulog Festival
The Sinulog Festival, held every January, is Cebu’s most famous cultural event. It features colorful parades, street dances, and music that celebrate the Santo Niño (Child Jesus). I had the opportunity to attend one year, and the energy and excitement were palpable. The streets are alive with performances, and the festival is a true showcase of Cebu’s culture.

Rooftop Bars with a View
For a more peaceful night, head to one of Cebu’s rooftop bars. One of my favorites is Sky Lounge at the Cebu City Marriott Hotel. The view of the city lights from above is stunning, and it’s a great place to relax after a busy day.
The atmosphere is calm, and you can enjoy your drink while watching the sunset or the city come to life at night. There are other rooftop spots in Cebu that offer beautiful views, making it a perfect choice for a quiet evening.
Bantayan Island Nightlife: Chill by the Sea
If you’re on Bantayan Island, the nightlife here is relaxed and peaceful. I visited a few beachside bars, where you can sip on cold drinks and enjoy acoustic music while watching the waves roll in.
Ogtong Cave Resort offers a great beach bar experience, with the ocean breeze and soft music setting the perfect mood for a chilled night. The nightlife on the island is perfect for those who want to unwind in a tranquil setting, away from the busy city.
Sugbo Mercado: A Foodie Night Out
For a different experience, check out Sugbo Mercado, a popular food market in Cebu. It’s a great spot to sample local food while enjoying live music and a lively crowd. I had the chance to try lechon, barbecued pork, and other Filipino dishes while soaking in the fun atmosphere. It’s a great place to enjoy some delicious food and meet new people, making it a must-see spot for anyone visiting Cebu.
Best Time to Visit Cebu
The dry season in Cebu, which runs from November to May, is the perfect time to visit. During these months, the weather is warm and sunny, making it ideal for outdoor activities like sightseeing, island-hopping, and exploring Cebu’s beautiful beaches. The clear skies and comfortable temperatures are great for spending long days outdoors, whether you’re hiking to waterfalls or enjoying the calm waters of the islands.
If you’re planning to visit during the Sinulog Festival in January, be prepared for large crowds and a busy atmosphere. This is Cebu’s biggest event, attracting thousands of locals and tourists alike. I recommend booking your accommodations well in advance, as hotels and rental properties tend to fill up quickly during this time. Even if you’re not attending the festival, January’s cooler temperatures make it an excellent month for sightseeing.
Outside of the peak festival months, Cebu offers a peaceful escape with fewer crowds. Visiting during the off-peak months, such as June to October, can be an affordable option. The rainy season may bring occasional showers, but there are still plenty of dry days to explore. You’ll also enjoy a more laid-back vibe, with less competition for activities and accommodations.
